About Us |
|
Rollicking Tales is a new publication aiming to bring the very best in modern pulp fiction to a 21st century audience.
What is pulp fiction, I hear you cry? Well it originated way back at the turn of the 20th century. A variety of stories would be bought up, packaged as cheaply as possible, using inferior quality wood pulp paper - hence the name - and sold to the public in their millions. With the advent of radio, and then television, the pulps died away, being replaced by supposedly higher quality magazines.
So was that the end of the pulps? No, my friend is was not. Now, a hundred years later they are making a strong resurgence. Why? I’m not altogether sure. Maybe it is because the advent of ebooks has made it possible to once again distribute fiction at an extremely affordable price. Maybe in these gloomy times of economic recession people are yearning for some good old fashioned fun
So what is Rollicking Tales? A Pastiche? Not at all. Rollicking tales is taking the spirit of the original pulps and thrusting it manfully into the modern era. The stories are fresh, they are exciting and they are modern.
But I’ve never heard of any of these writers? Of course not, the contributors of Rollicking Tales are up and coming talent. We live in a global age now, there is a community of pulp fiction writers and readers spread across the world. When you read Rollicking Tales you will be introduced to the best of them. After each story we include details of where you can find my work by the author: Rollicking Tales is just the beginning of the journey.
